VICROADS has ignored calls from residents to install traffic lights at a busy Vermont intersection.
Ventura Bus Lines and local schools support the push for traffic lights at the intersection of Morack and Boronia Roads.
But VicRoads acting regional director Graham Clarke said there were no plans to install traffic signals at the intersection.
The intersection receives heavy traffic from nearby Canterbury Road and EastLink exits.
While there is a pedestrian crossing on Boronia Road, the closest traffic signals are at the intersection of Boronia and Canterbury Roads, 600 metres north-west the Morack/Boronia Road junction.
Vermont Primary School school council vice president Mark Glazebrook (pictured) said peak hour and school-time traffic caused long delays for parents trying to get to schools.
Mr Glazebrook said the pedestrian traffic lights close to the intersection on Boronia Road failed to adequately manage traffic flow and motorists exiting Morack Road became caught in the centre of Boronia Road.
Vermont Secondary School principal Tony Jacobs said the traffic congestion caused blind spots for motorists turning right into Boronia Road.
‘‘You’ve got peak hour traffic and school traffic to contend with on the road. A traffic light would certainly help the congestion and VicRoads should consider it,’’ he said.
Ventura Bus Lines group manager Ron Hamilton said high traffic volumes made it difficult for the route 742 bus to turn right at the intersection.
‘‘Traffic lights would absolutely be welcomed,’’ he said.
